Who we are ...
The
Hibernian Art Foundation, established in 2004
with the objective of promoting Art exhibitions in schools. The Foundation
set out to achieve three things:
to develop a successful business venture in a field that encourages
art and supports the education and development of children;
to build funds for a particular charity, which helps
children and young people up to school-leaving age who have special
needs, through involvement in a range of artistic activities. The charity
focuses on children who live in Ireland. Approximately 7 per cent of
all the proceeds of the sales achieved at each school exhibition goes
to charity; and
to offer each school an excellent opportunity to raise funds for their
own important projects and to enjoy all the other advantages outlined
on this website - above all, to provide a rewarding and fun event for
all involved.
How we work
There are four stages in our programme.
First, we visit the school to discuss all the details of the
proposed show with the Art co-ordinator, head teacher and often a PTA
representative. We will have with us a sufficient quantity of special
art paper for each child in the school. We will diary the date of the
proposed show and also schedule a date to pick up all the completed
pictures for framing. We will have examples of the range of frames we
intend to use so that you can select the one or the ones you would like
to see. It may be that you would prefer a different frame to represent
a different class, year or form group. At this meeting we will also
provide a sample of the letter that schools often decide to use to describe
the forthcoming event to parents and guardians.
Second, we collect the pictures for framing.
Third, on the appointed day we set up and hang the exhibition
and open the show. You may wish the event tie in with another PTA fund-raising
day, or perhaps an open day. We often find it is most convenient for
parents and children if the exhibition stArt during a weekday lunchtime
period and remains opens until about an hour or more after normal pick-up
time. This allows successive classes or year groups to visit the exhibition
during the early afternoon.
Finally, we return for a very brief meeting to complete the
paperwork.
There's a lot more going on behind the scenes at our end, of course,
particularly in managing such activities as press information and photo
calls, and having the pictures carefully and properly framed to show off
each work.
